Things in Print Thursday :: best YA of 2015 in review

24 Dec

I read… exactly none of these.  But I’ve been thinking a lot about YA lately, so it seemed reasonable to look into.  There’s an entire long list on the Young Adult Library Services Association website, but I’m just looking at the top 10.

The Carnival at Bray (Jessie Ann Foley): white heterosexual female protagonist.
The Crossover (Kwame Alexander): African-American heterosexual male protagonist.
The Gospel of Winter (Brandon Kiely): white heterosexual (?) male protagonist.
I’ll Give You the Sun (Jandy Nelson): white heterosexual male and female protagonists.
Jackaby (William Ritter): white heterosexual female protagonist.
Noggin (John Corey Whaley): white heterosexual male protagonist.
The Story of Owen: Dragon Slayer of Trondheim (E.K. Johnston): white heterosexual male protagonist.
Vango (Timothee de Fombelle): white (?) heterosexual male protagonist.
We Were Liars (E. Lockhart): white heterosexual female protagonist.
The Young Elites (Marie Lu): Italian (?) heterosexual female protagonist.

WHY IS THIS LIST SO HETEROSEXUAL.
