Whimsy Wednesday :: in which organization saves the day and I rejoice in everypony’s differences.

11 Jul

I bet you thought this was done, didn’t you.  NOPE.  I have gone from the point of enjoying watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic as a joke to enjoying watching it nostalgically to just kind of enjoying it to enjoying it way too much and on levels that I’m pretty sure the show’s writers did not even intend.

But I think that a lot of the reason that I grew up like I did is because I have always sought entertainment that is like this.  Basically.

Anyway, they’re singing a jaunty tune.  The whole town of ponies.  Oh, and those blue and purple random ponies just nuzzled.  This is a musical number on a more grand scale than has been before, and I think it is adorable.  Everyone is working together.   It is hard but they do it because it is right.  Dear lord, this is adorable.  And poor Twi is so befuddled.  How do you do without magic?  She is going to learn I bet.

Everyone has strengths and will learn to use them, even in unexpected ways.

Rarity looks so worried.  Nestmaking is not Twi’s strength.  Flying was not Twi’s strength, obviously.  She is going to learn what to do.  I’m guessing that ice skating won’t be Twi’s strength either.

“What are you talking about?  You said you wanted to be helpful.”  Yes, Spike the dragon, but not everyone is helpful in the same way.  You are silly.  Also you are sometimes abrasive.  Oh, but Pinkie is trying to be polite and that’s cute.

Somehow I don’t think Twi is gonna be great helping Flutter with the critters either.  Somehow.  But, d’aww, Flutter.  You are the most adorable.  The world of ponies is fascinating.  It’s like the real world but also not.  The same things happen but under different circumstances.

Oh, but Twi, the bees and the snakes and the skunks and the bats do need to wake up too.   It’s just not fun.

Traditions are clearly foolish.  I think that’s the lesson too.  I mean, it’s good to have them on one hoof, but on the other hoof, sometimes they’re made to be broken.  Everypony has their strengths, and their strengths may not be traditional, but they can still be helpful.

Or maybe the lesson is that magic isn’t good for everything, no matter how good your intentions may be.  That’s a valid lesson too, probably.

Spike, buddy, you are kind of a hypocrite.  Or at least a sillyface.

Now Rainbow is torn between things and I bet Twi is going to help somehow.  Lateness cannot be tolerated!  Twi likes to keep things organized and good.  And here Twi comes to help!  Organization!!  YES!!  This is why Twilight Sparkle is my favorite pony.  Because she understands the value of keeping things organized and planned and good!  Yes!!

You know what I love about this show?  Everypony is allowed to have their strengths and weaknesses and favorite things and least favorite things and sometimes the more abrasive of the bunch make jokes about it, but overall, nobody makes a giant deal of how everypony is different and we need these differences to make the world go ‘round or whatever.

And another.  Because I am neurotic and like to do things in twos.  Oh my gosh tiny ponies!  Why is that tiny pony’s cutie mark a spoon?  OH MY GOD TINY PONY WITH GLASSES.  TWO TINY PONIES WITH GLASSES.

This is an episode about uniqueness.

Oh, and that purple tiny pony is mean.  Don’t make fun of Apple Bloom.  She is just tiny and still finding herself or whatever.  This whole cutie mark thing is actually quite interesting, because everyone finds themselves, that’s part of life, but this is both telling the world that you haven’t found yourself and telling yourself when you do.  Hm.

…really?  A pony named Diamond Tiara has a cutie mark of a diamond tiara?  Straightforward.

Is Apple Bloom trying to get a cutie mark about being a salespony?  I don’t even know how that would work.  Baby, don’t push it.  You’ll be okay.

“Y’all come back now, y’hear?”  You just did that, AJ.

PONIES.  LEARN YOUR LESSONS ABOUT ACCEPTING EVERYONE’S DIFFERENCES.  I guess maybe when you’re a little pony, you still haven’t learned things.  Is this an episode about exposition?  I imagine it is, at least a little.

And I still haven’t figured out why the Apple family have Southern accents.

You know, Rainbow, not everypony is going to have a cutie mark possibility based on athletic potential.  Alhtough it’s about as silly as Apple Bloom’s thinking she’d get one from selling apples, so.  HOLY JESUS PONY ROLLER DERBY.  It wasn’t her cutie mark, but conceptually, d’aww.

I’m sad that one of the glasses ponies is a twit.  And also, cutie marks don’t make you special, I mean, everypony has  a different one, but everypony eventually has one.  It doesn’t really work that way, snobby tiny ponies.

Pinkie.  Why do you sing all the time.  I mean, if it makes you happy, go for it.  But you sing a lot and it is overwhelming.

See, and this is going to be like the last episode structurally.  She’s going to go through all of it and search for a talent, and it’ll be only at the end when she stops trying to do things everyone else’s way and instead she learns to do things her own way that she succeeds.

Oh, Apple Bloom.  Magic doesn’t work that way.  Poor little tiny pony.

Also, cuteceañera.  That.  I don’t know.

Why are you all so mean?  What purpose does it serve?  Why are you wearing weird ruffly saddles?  Why are you so snippy?

OH MY GOD SHE’S FULL OF POTENTIAL.  Who are these awesome tiny ponies under the table talking about how people can be anything?  Here are Twi and AJ thirding this concept, too!

The pony with the silver spoon cutie mark is literally named Silver Spoon.  Well, okay.

Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle?  Well, okay.  Friendships!  Discovery!  Secret societies!  Well, damn, these guys are adorable.

But this is so endearing, you guys.
